The North West Provincial Executive Committee has intervened decisively to rescue Naledi and Mamusa local municipalities.
Both councils have struggled under financial recovery plans for over two years without achieving stability.
New provincial executive representatives have now been introduced to lead structural and governance reforms.
Shirley Lesupi has taken charge at Naledi while Ellen Moncho oversees operations at Mamusa.
These appointed leaders will enforce strict expenditure controls and ensure full legislative compliance.
“The experience of the past two years highlighted that there is need for stronger coordination and enhanced stakeholder alignment for a more focused implementation approach that prioritises high impact actions within a shorter time frame,” Provincial Treasury MEC, Kenetswe Mosenogi, said.
Multidisciplinary teams of experts will support the representatives in driving institutional recovery and service delivery.
Municipal leadership teams must prioritise high-impact actions to accelerate progression from the current rescue phase.
Stronger coordination aims to eliminate persistent financial mismanagement and restore public trust in local governance. Both councils have pledged their full cooperation to ensure these urgent governance reforms succeed.
