Navalsig High School Under-19 have clinched the 2026 Kay Motsepe School Tournament for the first time after defeating Eastern Cape side Urban Academy by two goals to nil on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The Bloemfontein-side netted twice in the second half to secure the championship, obtaining the first position. Head coach, Mzwakhe James, saluted his players, technical team, and the entire Navalsig community from the teachers, and the School Governing Body (SGB) for their participation leading up to the historic triumph.
He said that the victory is a rewarding experience following a challenging journey from the provincial stages to the national tournament. “We are humbled and honoured to be here and winning the tournament.
The journey was a very difficult one for us as a team, from the zonals in Bloemfontein all the way to the nationals.
The boys did well,” James said. James also commended his charges’ defensive resilience throughout the competition, indicating their clean record of conceding a few goals. “We conceded three goals throughout the entire tournament, from zonals to nationals.
We conceded one goal at the zonal stage, one goal provincially, and one goal at nationals. That says a lot about the boys and the team we have,” he said.
