Tower United FC players and technical team lift the trophy after they won the Safa Thabo Mofutsanayana Hollywood Men's regional league playoffs In Fouriesburg.

In a dramatic turn of events, Tower United Football Club emerged victorious at the South African Football Association (SAFA) Hollywood Men’s regional league play-offs that took place in Fouriesburg on 26 April 2025.

The tournament was marked by controversy when Golden Eagle Soccer Academy the hosting town refused to kick off their scheduled game against Tower United FC saying that they did not want local referees to judge the match.

The team demanded referees from Qwaqwa which is just over 100km away to officiate the game which resulted in a two-hour delay.

Despite all efforts, Golden Eagle soccer academy was the first to exit the tournament following a 2-1 defeat from their neighbours from Clarens while Tower United went on to win the tournament defeating PM Feruorem from Reitz 4 – 2 in a penalty shootout after both teams played a 1 -1 draw.

In the final, Tower United FC took the lead through its captain Motjhini Mashinini but PM Feruorem FC from Clarens equalised through Bonginkosi Mguni which sent the game to penalties.
Feruorem edged past the play-offs favourites, Trimalents FC to reach the final.

The game ended in a stalemate and had to be decided on a lottery of penalties with Feruorem winning 5 - 4.

Eagle FC, United FC and Trimalents FC reached the knock-out regional play-offs after they finished top of their respective teams with Feruorem joining as best winners.

The regional league had three streams of eight teams.

Tower United FC coach, Teboho Rammile, expressed his pride in the achievement of his team.

"I am proud of the boys because they come from humble beginnings.

“It is our first time winning the playoffs.

“We are used to being in relegation and therefore I want to thank the boys and the management of the team for their excellence.

Rammile credited the team’s success for their determination and hard work but acknowledged areas of improvement, particularly in physical strength and technical aspects.

"There are many things that we did not do right but we managed to win. We just have to go back to our physical strength. We could not build up the way we wanted because physically the boys were not good.

"I want to reach the final because that will give us an automatic promotion. The boys are mentally ready but technically we are not.

“We just have to work on our technical aspects," he said.
